I wanted to let you know about a company I met a few weeks ago who sell the most beautiful, luxury and sustainably-sourced cashmere and lotus scarves; its called Thread Tales Co.
Katherine Maunder founded the company, having spent her career working in fashion. Her mother is a midwife and while she was teaching traditional birth assistants in Burma, she found this incredible material, hand picked and hand woven from the stems of the Lotus flower. She brought a sample back home to the UK to show Katherine, who was immediately inspired by its rare softness and its potential to create beautiful designs.
Katherine then travelled to Myanmar to meet the community of artisans that weave it by the Inle Lakes in Myanmar, and so began the start of Thread Tales Co.
In Katherine’s words, “The pieces I design are textured and tactile. I am inspired by the diversity and imperfections of the natural environment. Travel is also a huge source of inspiration and I journey to visit the talented artisans who create fabric for Thread Tales Company. I learn from their traditional expertise and encourage them to interpret their age-old techniques and fabrics in a modern way.”
The range of products are beautiful and incredibly well made- as well as being sustainably sourced.
They are in the higher price point bracket and are not your “run of the mill” products….these scarves and shawls will last a lifetime and the knowledge that your purchase is supporting a community as well as a sustainable yet luxurious product is something that is a rare commodity in today’s world of fast fashion.
I can totally vouch for the quality, warmth and stunning herringbone design…but there are many more on the website- so please take a look.
In the near future, Katherine will be holding a launch party in the Cotswolds, to showcase the range and give customers the opportunity to see the products…if you would like to be on the invite list- then please let me know.
