That extra layer..
Spring is in full swing and Summer is not far off, but unpredictable temperatures mean that when it comes to the UK Summertime, it always pays to be prepared(!!) I am a MAJOR fan of a jacket..in any form. I am more drawn to jackets then any other wardrobe item (well…maybe a cashmere jumper might be jostling for first place of fav items…but let’s not go off-point!)
Whilst the sun has greeted us on several occasions already this season, there are still a few occasions where it isn’t quite warm enough to venture out without a coat (or an umbrella for that matter!) There are several chic outerwear options to consider to keep you warm and stylish whilst we wait for the temperatures to really heat up…
Perfect to create shape and show off a slim waist (opt for a style with darting so it pulls in around your middle). Neutral colours like Stone, Taupe, Pewter and Charcoal are all versatile, or to make a bit of a statement choose something in more a “WOW” shade – greens, bright pinks or a pop of red will all give a fresh, Spring feel to your outfit.
If you feel too “office-y” in a classic blazer, I would recommend a jersey-type fabric as a good alternative option. These are brilliant at giving you the same look, but in a more casual way; you can roll the sleeves back, wear it layered with a scarf, wear a longer top underneath so that the sleeves run lower. H&M do a brilliant range in a variety of shades… and at £24.99 they are a no brainer!
Perfect for those of you with natural, laid-back style personality ; a simple denim jacket will give a casual look the perfect finishing touch. Remember to opt for a denim that suits your skin tone; if you are dark, then go for a dark navy shade, whereas if you are fair and light in your colouring, you will look better in something more washed-out. This one is from Topshop…and at £46 it’s the price of a jumper…so not a budget-buster.
Classic and stylish, a trench coat is a staple that every woman can utilise as part of her Spring wardrobe and is a great choice as smarter outerwear for work. If you have a curvy body shape, choose a belted style to show off your waist. Gap are brilliant for doing a classic, affordable, good quality option: (£69.95)
Straighter body shapes should choose one with a little shaping but no belt around the middle to keep your look simple and uncluttered. I love this look……the Duster Coat – a more drapey, relaxed cut in comparison to the classic trench, and is everywhere at the moment. Here’s a great one from ASOS (£65.00)
Finally, remember to accessorise! Lightweight scarves in a great colour (or combination of colours) for you , will add a little extra warmth on chillier days as well as a pop of colour to pull together your whole look. If you don’t believe me- here is link to a picture I put on my Instagram page to show the difference a scarf in the right colour makes!
I hope that gives you some inspiration…
