Its all about the dresses, skirts (and an easy jumpsuit!)

Hello! I hope you have are all having  good bank holiday weekend?

Today is another blog for Baukjen. The last two blogs I have done for them have all been about the “capsule” wardrobe….helping you to find pieces that will be timeless, won’t date, fill the gaps and will go with lots of other items in your wardrobe.

Hopefully you by the time you read this you will have got your head around your “needs” wish list and have begun to fulfil it. So I thought this blog could focus on the “wants”!

So often I liken clothes shopping to the food shopping process. The “capsule wardrobe” part requires the same mentality needed for buying food items for an actual recipe; if you don’t have them, it going to be much more challenging to pull off the end result- ie to make a green salad with no lettuce would be a challenge!

However, once you have got these items and fulfilled your list – you can wander the supermarket being distracted and inspired by offers, things that look yummy and things you might want to try out. It is the same with clothes shopping- fill the gaps and buy the things you need and then you can allow yourself to have fun and buy the odd item that gives your wardrobe an update, a boost and some creativity.

With that in mind- this months’ blog focuses on my favourite skirts and dresses from Baukjen’s new collection.

First up – one major trend this season is to channel the fabulous Julia Robert’s in “Pretty Woman” – brown and white spots!

This Genevieve Wrap dress  is so flattering; fluid, drapey fabric that will bend around curves and show off your waist. I particularly like the capped sleeves as this hides the tops of the arms (always an area few of us want to show off). If the length of this isn’t the most flattering for you as it stops at the widest part of your calf, then I would suggest a simple hem. You can easily buy iron-on strips which should hold this type of fabric so you don’t have to rely on your sewing skills! I found these ones.

The colours of this dress will work for all of you with a warm skin tone (avoid if you are cooler in tones as it will make your skin look yellow!) Be careful if you are very petite as the frill around the bottom will add bulk in this area and make your legs look shorter. The best way around this is to always wear with a good pair of heels.

I loved this stripy shirt dress….so simple, yet so fresh and pretty.

Madeline Dress

This would be great for those of you who are balanced in your shape – be careful of this if you have a full bust as it could push against the buttons at the front and make it gape and the fabric pull. The full skirt is so feminine but be careful if you have full hips as they could pull the pleats out and make you look more bottom heavy.

I like the idea of wearing a simple crew necked jumper over the top to give a different look and more warmth for cooler days. Wear with light coloured shoes/wedges/sandals if you want to make your legs look longer….or possibly wear with a bold printed shoe to add a bit of drama an interest to an otherwise classic item.

I loved the off the shoulder detail on this dress….

Neesha Midi Dress

It is so flattering and feminine and is such an easy way to make your shoulders look broader (if you are bottom heavy). This one is especially fabulous as it also covers the tops of the arms!! An elegant shape that will show of your waist and offers a great option for summer parties. Dressed up with a statement shoe and earrings in a bright colour (bright pink is immediately springing to mind, but you could go with any colour; yellow/turquoise/green/orange – the choice is endless) there are so many different looks you can create due to the fact the dress is in neutral colours meaning it will go with anything.

Black and white is not always the easiest colour for lots of people with soft colouring- however, because the neckline is low- you can put a necklace in a great colour for you between your face and the dress…so everyone’s a winner!

This skirt will be brilliant for those of you who don’t have much curve in your hips, have a small bottom and slim legs…as it will really add a bit of shape to that area due to the stiffer fabric and the way it is buttoned across the hips.

The Lennox Skirt

Wear with a good pair of heels if you are on the petite side…making sure they are lighter in colour so that they don’t cause a premature “full stop” on your leg!

I think the first thing I bought from Baukjen was one of their jumpsuits….and it is still one of my most favourite items in my wardrobe.

Laila Jumpsuit

It feels a total cop-out to wear as I am as comfortable in it as I am in my PJ’s! The fabric is so soft and drapy so nothing feels tight or constricting! This classic black one will be such a great alternative if you don’t want to have to wear with a dress. Worn with flipflops and a biker jacket to a BBQ or a pair of heels and a jacket to a party- it will always deliver. If you have a defined waist I would wear a belt there or it might suit your shape to have the belt sitting lower on your hips – just make sure the elasticated band is hidden underneath.

I hope you like my picks as well as the advice and the background theory that goes with it. If you want to buy anything from the range I have a discount code “KATE20” which will give you 20% off full priced items – please do you pass it on to anyone who you think would appreciate it!

If you would like more guidance on “How to Create Your Capsule wardrobe” or more inspiration as to how to update your wardrobe for Spring/summer 2019, you can watch the videos I have recorded-here is a link to the webinar page on my website where you can see the entire collection to decide which one might help you the most.

They have been so well received by others who have watched them:

“I have loved Kate’s webinars so far, lots of great information to help you make smarter purchases and to get the most out of your wardrobe. Kate is such a warm person who is so generous with her time. Thanks Kate!” Rachel Yates

“Clear, informative and enjoyable. Such a great idea. And I can watch Kate’s webinars from the comfort of my home whilst my baby has his lunchtime sleep – brilliant!” Emily Martel

“Watched the capsule wardrobe webinar twice so far and it is so good and I feel very inspired. Have been and brought hangers today as recommended by Kate so now going to start the process. Very excited to get started!”  Sharon Norman.

Let me know if you have any questions about these or any of my other services.

Have a great weekend!
